9. Oval Room
Last night I finally cracked the top ten with a trip to the Oval Room. This was the first stop at what I would consider a “lobbyist restaurant”. I assumed the restaurant would be dead on a Monday night, but much to my surprise almost every table was taken. For the most part diners were middle-aged men in dark suits, but there was a rather large table of ladies who had no interest in...

59. Proof
After this weekend’s trip to Cafe du Parc which was, uh…pricey, I reevaluated my dining habits. Meaning as soon as I got home on Friday night I Googled “secret DC dining deals”. After getting past the few (inexplicable) porn sites that came up, I came upon a posting for the Lunch Crush at Proof. During the week, you can order off a bar menu of six lunchy items that come...

32. Cafe du Parc
There are a total of twelve French restaurants on the 100 Best List. I hate French food. Every time I go to a French restaurant, I act like a five year old and order a baguette with brie. But I am a big girl now, and I have to meet this head on. The first of my twelve forays in to Frency town was at Cafe du Parc. Its the less fancy restaurant at the Willard, which is a place I hope to loiter in...

I'm Just Not That In To You, Washingtonian
I’ve been out of town for a couple days, but when I checked my mail I not only got a metric ton of catalogues, but I got a message loud and clear from Washingtonian—you’re not trying hard enough. Right between two Discover card applications was the March 2009 issue, DC 75 Best Bars. As a result, I have penned the following letter:
Dear Washingtonian - I have a job. And to be...

Ranting about Hook, part 2 of many
After my less than stellar experience at Hook yesterday, I ended up at Hook’s little sister restaurant, Tackle Box, for a snack after a movie. Tackle Box is not on the Washingtonian list, but it should be. And if it doesn’t end up on the 100 Cheapest Eats list this year, I will stage my very own Code Pink protest complete with feather boas and placards right outside the Washingtonian...

79. Hook
The second stop on my magical mystery tour of food was Hook. Two gal pals and I went for lunch today to take advantage of the restaurant week deals. We were hoping that Hook would be one of those restaurants that works the same menu during restaurants week as it does the rest of the year. Sadly, Hook is not one of those restaurants. Having eaten there before (and very recently), I was looking...

Countdown to Komi
I finally got reservations at the number-one-greatest-restaurant-of-all-time-to-ever-serve-food (according to Washingtonian), Komi. My parents originally wanted to take me there for my birthday, but I wasn’t willing to give up a kidney or a $1000 bill when I called the first time so it took some work to get in there. Here’s a log of my day by day attempts to attain the reservation holy...

47. Black Market Bistro
Well finally, I’ve started my culinary journey. Number one of one hundred (chronologically that is) happens to be Black Market Bistro in Garrett Park. I went with Julie, who had requested we dine at the Original Pancake House, but when I threw a fit on account of the 40 minute wait there we settled on something a little more off the grid. The fact that Black Market Bistro is an arms length...

And so it begins...
On February 9th, 2009, the day after my 27th birthday, I decided to take on the monumental task of eating at all 100 restaurants on the Washingtonian Best Restaurants of 2009 lists. By the end of a year I may be overweight, poor, and with a cholesterol reading through the roof, but I will have eaten well.
And yes, that is a new restaurant almost every three and a half days.
