PSA on Minibar Reservations
Good News! I learned that there is, in fact, redial on my phone and it was just in time because today is the day that will go down in history as the day I finally booked my Minibar reservations. Hazzah! It was not nearly as Abbott and Costello as the Komi reservation debacle, but it did take some serious conviction and serious redialing.
I did learn a very valuable lesson though, which I now...

52. Kotobuki
On Sunday I finally tried Kotobuki, a teeny tiny sushi restaurant in the Palisades. Now I say finally for the following two reasons: 1) I live in the same ‘hood and 2) I love sushi with the fire of a thousand suns. I used to drive by Kotobuki (and it’s much more grown up sister restaurant, Makoto) on a fairly regular basis and say to myself “there’s that good sushi...

20. Farrah Olivia
I was in blogger DEFCON 1 on Friday—I found out Farrah Olivia was closing in two days and I hadn’t been yet. Crisis! Luckily, crisis easily solved by going to the depths of Old Town to dine. I was relatively familiar with Farrah Olivia already since Morou, the chef, had done a pretty good job whoring himself out to the Food Network on many many occasions. Most notably on the show where...

43. Le Paradou
Eating at Le Paradou last night was a little like making dinner the night before you go on a long vacation—you’ve gotten rid of most of your food so you have to piece together a meal, but at the same time you just try to eat or drink whatever you have left. In their defense, the restaurant is closing for good in a few days, but for how grossly overpriced this restaurant is, they could...

68. Nicaro
To say that Nicaro is unassuming isn’t really doing it justice. Yes, it’s in newly (and slowly) up and coming Silver Spring, but it is stuck right between a pawnbroker, another pawnbroker and a wig shop. Also right across the street is a corset shop. I’ve noted for the future that this stretch of Georgia Avenue will be an important stop if we are unexpectedly time-travel transported to...

82. La Chaumiere
Tonight I channeled Julia Child. Admittedly, it was a little bit on purpose. I decided to knock off yet another French restaurant on my own, so I grabbed a book and headed down to Georgetown to try La Chaumiere. Not only was I eating at a country French restaurant, I parked on Olive Street (where Julia and her husband had a house while living in D.C.), and happened to grab “My Life in...

91. Amici Miei
This was going to be my review:
SERIOUSLY?
Then I figured that you, the people of the Internet, would want more. Really there isn’t much more I can give you. I’m honestly shocked that this place is on the top 100 list, albeit far down the list. If it is on there, Food Food at the 9:30 club, Al’s Pizza and my kitchen should all be on the list ahead of it.
Potomac (or Rockville as...

75. BlackSalt
I have been a fan of BlackSalt for a long time, and am a little baffled at how far down the list it ranks. Maybe the powers that be were put off by the fact you have to walk through a fish market to get to the restaurant, but isn’t that where all the cool things usually are? Like Studio 54, where all the celebs hung out in the basement instead of the main room? Not that I know from...

70. Cafe Atlantico
Continuing my weekend of all things Jose Andres, I finally tried the famed Latino Dim Sum Brunch today at Cafe Atlantico. Not only was I giving Jose Andres another chance after my less than enjoyable experience at Jaleo, I was giving tapas another chance. You can try and fool me, Jose, but I know that dim sum is just a fancy (and Chinese) name for tapas. Luckily, the menu items were not just...

46. Jaleo
Here’s the thing about tapas: I hate it. I think it is usually so unsatisfying and ungodly expensive. So when I went to make dinner reservations for last night and everything in the greater DC area was booked for some reason (ahem, the effing cherry blossoms), we had to go with the downtown Jaleo. On top of my tapas aversion, I’ve always had an issue with Jaleo. Now, I’d only...
