There are many mysteries in the world. The one that I struggle with on a pretty regular basis is simple: where the hell can a girl get some brunch before 11:30am on a Saturday? All the brunchy places in my neighborhood open at 11:30 and as an early riser (well—early riserish, I’m sure some would disagree) I end up gorging myself on turkey bacon and untoasted bread while standing in my kitchen before actually meeting my friends. And then there’s the coffee headache and caffeine deficiency. Three hours of that on a Saturday morning and it’s no wonder I’m still single.

Anyways, today I hit Commissary in Logan Circle for breakfast. 10:30am and it was already packed, but luckily we didn’t wait too long. Commissary isn’t going to blow your mind with it’s food, but it’s good and warm and the coffee mugs are huge. I had the egg scramble with salmon and onions. Good, though the onions weren’t chopped very small and were a bit unwieldy. I’ll give them a pass though—again, I say the coffee mugs are big.

After today I have a new personal quest: to find the elusive Saturday brunch spot without a long wait, great food and coffee. Lots of coffee. Suggestions are appriecated!
