74. (RIP) Locanda
Well Washington restaurants, you’ve caught me with my pants down. Or my fork down in this case. According to the Washington Post chat, Locanda (#74) closed over Memorial Day weekend. Where’s the fanfare? Where’s the ‘thanks for eating here but not enough to keep the place open’ patron dinner? Where’s the suprise reopening a la Farrah Olivia? Well it looks like eating at Locanda will not be in the cards for me, since when I called over there today, their phones had been disconnected. Nothing says out of business like a dead phone.
I’m assuming you are not terribly interested in the review of a place that has gone to restaurant heaven (or hell) but I did eat there a couple years ago and have this to say: the food was pretty good if I remember correctly, but since we went on Halloween we felt the need to order the pumpkin ravioli. Unfortunately for Locanda (and for me), I don’t like pumpkin ravioli so I didn’t think it was all that great. We did end up ordering the veal ragu to supplement the fall tableau, and I thought that was delicious. The place was good, but not terribly memorable. Apparently the diners of Washington did not find it so memorable either.
Well Locanda, you gave it a shot. Amazingly, Thai Roma, the part Thai/part Italian place down the street stayed open longer than you, until it was bought by Good Stuff Eatery. Maybe you should have integrated a little Thai in to your menu?
Rest in peace my friend.
